Oncidium sotoanum subsp. papalosmum R.Jiménez 2010

ornithorhynchum = like a bird's beak
Origin: Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama
Habitat:
epiphytic in humid forests at elevations up to 1,500 meters
Notes:
For most of the last 200 years, this orchid was known as Oncidium ornithorhynchum, which, according to recent studies, describes a yellow-flowered species from the South American Andes generally known as Oncidium pyramidale. A new name was needed for this orchid with its pink, intensely fragrant flowers, which occurs in Central America; hence the new name Oncidium sotoanum for the species shown in the photos above.
