Name: Oncidium Lovely Penguin ‘Emperor’
Etymology: The genus name Oncidium derives from the Greek word for “swelling” or “bump” and refers to the callus on the lip. ‘Emperor’ is the cultivar name of this selected form.
Location/Growing Conditions: We recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, and excellent air movement. A fine- to medium-grade, airy orchid mix should be kept evenly slightly moist during growth and drain well. Cool to intermediate temperatures of about 14–24 °C, with cooler nights, are favorable.
Description and Notes: Oncidium Lovely Penguin ‘Emperor’ is a decorative Oncidium hybrid with pseudobulbs, elongated leaves, and upright to arching flower spikes. This selected form is distinguished by its striking, high-contrast flowers. While new growth is developing, we keep the plant regularly moist; once it has matured, watering can be reduced slightly without allowing the pseudobulbs to shrivel significantly.
