Name: Oncidium Hans Ehmig
Parents: Oncidium Point Pesky × Oncidium Gene Gettel
Registration: Oncidium Hans Ehmig was registered with the RHS in 2024 by Ecuagenera, listed as both the registrant and originator.
Etymology: The genus name Oncidium derives from the Greek word for “swelling” or “bump” and refers to the callus on the lip.
Location/Growing Conditions: Based on its parentage, we recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, and excellent air movement. The potting medium should be fine to medium-grade, airy, and slightly moisture-retentive. Keep it evenly and lightly moist during growth. Cool to intermediate conditions of around 14–24 °C, with cooler nights, are well suited.
Description and Notes: Oncidium Hans Ehmig is a modern Oncidium hybrid from highland-influenced lines. It produces pseudobulbs, elongated leaves, and upright to arching inflorescences bearing striking, high-contrast flowers. We avoid both waterlogging and allowing the plant to dry out completely for extended periods, especially while new growths are developing.
