Masdevallia deformis

Name: Masdevallia deformis Kraenzl.

Origin/Distribution: Southeastern and southern Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist montane and cloud forests with filtered light and consistent humidity. In cultivation, we recommend cool to temperate conditions, approximately 10–22 °C, high humidity, and gentle, steady air movement.

Description and Notes: The species has delicate leaves and unusually proportioned flowers with the characteristic fused calyx area of the genus. We cultivate it in a fine, airy, yet moisture-retaining orchid substrate. The substrate should never dry out completely; however, waterlogging and stagnant air should be avoided.
