Description

Masdevallia decumana

Name: Masdevallia decumana Königer

Etymology: The epithet decumana comes from Latin and means “very large” or “impressive.”

First description: The species was described by Rudolf Königer.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, in the humid montane forests of the Andes. It grows as an epiphyte and prefers cool, humid conditions.

Description & Notes: A compact-growing Masdevallia with exceptionally large flowers for the species. We grow it in bright to lightly shaded conditions, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly moist and do not let it dry out completely. We keep it cool, at around 12–20 °C.
