Description

Masdevallia cuprea

Name: Masdevallia cuprea Lindl.

Origin/Distribution: Northern and western South America, including Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and northern Brazil.

Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist mountain and cloud forests with filtered light and consistent humidity. For cultivation, we recommend cool to temperate conditions, approximately 10–22 °C, high humidity, and gentle, steady air movement.

Description and Notes: The species bears characteristic copper-colored to brownish flowers with elongated sepal tips. We cultivate it in a fine, airy, yet moisture-retaining orchid substrate. The substrate should never dry out completely; however, waterlogging and stagnant air should be avoided.
