Masdevallia calocalix

Name: Masdevallia calocalix Luer

Origin/Distribution: Tropical South America.

Location/Habitat: The species grows epiphytically in moist mountain and cloud forests with filtered light and consistent humidity. In cultivation, we recommend cool to temperate conditions, around 10–22 °C, high humidity, and gentle, steady air movement.

Description and Notes: This compact species is characterized by delicate leaves and finely proportioned flowers with the inflorescence typical of Masdevallia, formed by the sepals. We cultivate it in a fine, airy, yet moisture-retaining orchid substrate. The substrate should never dry out completely; however, waterlogging and stagnant air should be avoided.
