First description: Late 19th century by Georg Hans Emmo Wolfgang Hieronymus.
Origin / Distribution: Southeast Asia; known from humid, montane regions of tropical forests.
Location / Habitat:
Lycopodium goebelii grows terrestrially or epiphytically in moss-rich, cool to temperate mountain forests. It prefers shady locations with high humidity, consistent moisture, and good air circulation.
Description & Notes:
This rarely cultivated clubmoss species is characterized by its dense, upright to slightly pendulous growth with narrow, needle-like leaves. The plant appears archaic and is reminiscent of primitive forest communities. In cultivation, a permanently slightly moist, very airy substrate is recommended, as well as protection from heat, dryness, and direct sunlight.
