Name: Lepanthes volador Luer & Hirtz
Parents: Lepanthes volador f. orange × Lepanthes volador f. orange
Note on the cross:
This is an intraspecific cross between two orange forms, not a separate grex.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Ecuador and was described from the Esmeraldas Province.
Location/Habitat: An epiphytic miniature orchid of moist tropical forests. We recommend warm to temperate conditions around 16–25 °C, shaded to moderately bright light, very high humidity, and gentle, steady air movement.
Description and notes: The species produces small, densely packed leaves and delicate flowers. Predominantly orange flowers are expected from this sowing; however, the seedlings may vary in color and markings. The fine roots must never dry out completely.
In vitro culture: You will receive a bottle containing 4 young plants. The plants are usually already large enough to be deflasked. After opening, very carefully remove the nutrient medium completely from the fine roots using lukewarm water. Place the young plants on soft sphagnum or in a very fine, airy, and evenly slightly moist substrate. Provide very high humidity, gentle air movement, and protected light during the first few weeks; never allow the plants to dry out and then gradually acclimate them to normal growing conditions.
