Description

Lepanthes ribes x Lepanthes felis OP in vitro

Name: Lepanthes ribes × Lepanthes felis
Etymology: ribes = currant (Latin, likely referring to the grape- or berry-like arrangement of the inflorescences); felis = cat (Latin, alluding to the characteristic flower shape, which resembles a cat's face with ears pricked up).

Origin / Distribution: Cultivar. The parent species originate from the humid, high-altitude cloud forests of Ecuador.
Location / Habitat: Epiphytic. After deflasking, requires cool to intermediate conditions, semi-shaded to shaded light levels (no direct sun), a constantly high humidity of 75–85%, as well as continuous, gentle air circulation.
Description & Notes: This highly interesting miniature hybrid combines two morphologically spectacular species of the genus Lepanthes. Lepanthes felis contributes its famous, face-like floral structures with characteristic, elongated sepal tips, while Lepanthes ribes provides a dense, floriferous texture and delicate coloration.

In the offspring, one can expect exceptionally shaped, delicate miniature flowers that present themselves in dynamic shades and represent an absolute highlight for enthusiasts of neotropical Pleurothallidinae. After acclimatization, ideal for cultivation in a display case, terrarium, or bottle garden.

In-vitro culture: You will receive a flask with 4 young plants. The plants are generally already large enough for deflasking. After opening, remove the nutrient medium very carefully from the very fine roots with lukewarm water and place the young plants on damp sphagnum or in a very fine, airy, and slightly moisture-retaining substrate. During the first few weeks, we recommend very high humidity, cool to intermediate conditions, sheltered light, and gentle, continuous air movement. Keep the young plants constantly slightly moist and never allow them to dry out completely.
