Description

Lepanthes genetoapophantica

Name: Lepanthes genetoapophantica Bogarín & Gravend.

Etymology: The unusual specific epithet refers to genetic studies that contributed to the delimitation and recognition of this species.

First description: 2018 by Diego Bogarín and Alexander Gravendeel.

Origin/Distribution: The species is known from Costa Rica and Panama.

Location/Habitat: It grows epiphytically in cool, very humid montane forests. We cultivate it cool at approximately 10–18 °C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous gentle air movement.

Description and notes: This small Lepanthes grows in dense clumps and produces numerous tiny flowers in succession. We keep the fine root system constantly slightly moist. We avoid permanent heat and stagnant, humid air.
