Name: Lepanthes dalessandroi Luer ‘Pink’
Etymology: The specific epithet dalessandroi honors orchid collector Dennis D’Alessandro. ‘Pink’ refers to the pink-flowered selection.
First described: 1983 by Carlyle A. Luer.
Origin/distribution: Ecuador and Peru.
Habitat: Epiphytic on mossy branches and trunks in moist montane forests at approximately 1,700–2,400 m above sea level. We recommend cool to intermediate conditions of approximately 11–21 °C, very high humidity, shaded light, and gentle air movement.
Description and notes: This species belongs to the relatively large-flowered Lepanthes; the flowers can reach nearly 2 cm and often appear in several at once. ‘Pink’ displays pink tones instead of the usual yellowish-ochre colors. Grow mounted on fine sphagnum or in a very fine, airy medium, and never allow the roots to dry out completely.
