Name: Hoya lacunosa Blume, variegated form
Etymology: The genus name Hoya honors the English gardener Thomas Hoy. The specific epithet lacunosa roughly means “sunken” or “covered with small pits” and refers to the leaf structure.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Southeast Asia.
Description and Notes: This variegated form of Hoya lacunosa is a compact, climbing to trailing wax plant with decorative variegated foliage. Its characteristic small, star-shaped flowers appear in dense umbels and can be pleasantly fragrant. We grow it in bright, filtered light; a little gentle morning or evening sun can encourage compact growth. A very airy, coarse, and well-draining substrate is ideal. Allow it to dry out slightly between waterings, without letting it dry out completely for extended periods. Temperatures of around 18–28 °C, elevated humidity, and good air circulation are recommended.
