Description

Hemionitis palmata

Name: Hemionitis palmata L.

Synonyms: Gymnogramma palmata (L.) Link

Etymology: The genus name Hemionitis is derived from Greek. The epithet palmata means "palmate" and refers to the lobed fronds.

First description: The species was described in 1753 by Carl von Linné.

Origin / Habitat: From Mexico to tropical South America and the Caribbean, in moist tropical areas. It grows from rhizomes, often in shaded and moist locations.

Description & Care: Compact fern with palmately lobed, bright green fronds and a short rhizome. We cultivate it in shaded to bright indirect light, warm conditions, with high humidity and good air circulation. We keep the substrate evenly moist, without waterlogging. We keep it at around 18–26 °C.
