Name: Encyclia faresiana
Origin/Distribution: Brazil, particularly Minas Gerais.
Location/Habitat: Epiphytic orchid from medium altitudes. We recommend bright, filtered light, good air circulation, and intermediate temperatures of about 16–25 °C.
Description and Notes: Encyclia faresiana forms pseudobulbs with leathery leaves and upright inflorescences with several star-shaped flowers. We cultivate them in a very airy, well-draining orchid substrate. Water regularly during growth and allow the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings.
In-vitro culture: You will receive a flask with 4 young plants. The plants are generally already large enough to be deflasked. After opening, carefully remove the nutrient medium completely from the roots using lukewarm water and pot the young plants in fine, airy bark with a little sphagnum moss. For the first few weeks, we recommend high humidity, intermediate temperatures, and bright but protected light with good air movement. Keep evenly slightly moist and allow to dry out more significantly only after the plants are securely established.
