Description

Dracula villegasii

Name: Dracula villegasii Königer

Etymology: The genus name Dracula means “little dragon.” The specific epithet honors the Colombian orchid enthusiast Francisco Villegas.

First described: 1999 by Walter Königer.

Origin/distribution: Colombia.

Location/habitat: Epiphytic on moss-covered trees in moist montane forests at elevations of approximately 1,500–1,800 m. We recommend temperatures of approximately 11–21 °C, high humidity, filtered light, and good air circulation.

Description and notes: The long-tailed individual flowers appear on horizontal to pendulous stems. An open basket provides them with sufficient space. Keep the fine, airy medium evenly slightly moist and avoid waterlogging.
