Name: Dracula sodiroi subsp. erythrocodon

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic orchid of humid mountain and cloud forests. It requires shady to semi-shady light, high humidity, constant gentle air movement, and an evenly moist root zone. Cultivate cool to intermediate at about 12–23 °C; avoid constant heat.

Description and notes: This form, sold as a subspecies, belongs to the Dracula sodiroi complex. Typical features are thin leaves, elongated sepals, and a striking reddish to dark floral pattern. A loose, moisture-retaining substrate and a permeable pot or basket are beneficial. The plant does not have a distinct dry dormant period.
