Description

Dracula sodiroi

Name: Dracula sodiroi

Etymology: The genus name Dracula literally means "little dragon" and refers to the unusual flower shape; sodiroi honors the botanist Luis Sodiro.

Origin/Distribution: The species originates from Ecuador and grows in humid Andean forests.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate Dracula sodiroi cool to intermediate at about 12–21 °C, in shade to bright filtered light, with very high humidity and good gentle air circulation. We keep the fine, airy substrate constantly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: The species develops the characteristic Dracula flowers with elongated sepal tips. A permeable basket culture can accommodate the downward-facing inflorescences. We avoid prolonged heat.
