Description

Dracula portillae

Name: Dracula portillae Luer & Andreetta

Etymology: The genus name Dracula means roughly “little dragon”; portillae honors Mario Portilla, who was involved in the discovery of the species.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: We grow Dracula portillae in cool to intermediate conditions at around 12–21 °C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and good, gentle air movement. We keep the fine substrate consistently slightly moist.

Description and Notes: The species produces compact, striking flowers on upright to lateral inflorescences, which may produce additional flowers in succession. Cool nights and consistent moisture promote healthy growth.
