Description

Dendrobium linguella

Name: Dendrobium linguella Rchb.f.

Etymology: linguella means “little tongue” and refers to the shape of the flower lip.

First description: Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach described the species in 1882.

Origin / Habitat: Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Sumatra, Borneo, and the Malay Peninsula, at about 300–1,250 m. It grows epiphytically in humid forests.

Description & notes: A pendulous species with slender, soft stems and waxy flowers about 2–4 cm across. In our collection, it grows in bright to partially shaded conditions, with good air circulation and consistent moisture during growth. We cultivate it in warm to intermediate conditions, at about 16–28 °C, and keep it drier during its rest period.
