Description

Dendrobium cuthbertsonii f. bicolor

Name: Dendrobium cuthbertsonii F.Muell. f. bicolor

Etymology: The genus name Dendrobium means "living on trees"; cuthbertsonii honors William Cuthbertson. bicolor refers to the two-colored flower form.

Origin/Distribution: The species is native to the highlands of New Guinea.

Location/Habitat: We cultivate it in cool conditions at around 8–20 °C, with very high humidity, bright filtered light, and continuous air movement. We keep the fine roots constantly slightly moist.

Description and Notes: This very compact color form produces exceptionally large, two-colored, and often long-lasting flowers in proportion to the size of the plant. We avoid sustained temperatures well above 24 °C as well as complete drying out.
