Name: Cotyledon ‘Elephant Trunk’
Etymology: The genus name Cotyledon comes from Greek and refers to a shell- or cup-like shape. The cultivar name ‘Elephant Trunk’ alludes to its thick, trunk-like growth.
Location/Growing conditions: We grow this succulent in very bright to sunny conditions at around 15–28 °C. A mineral, very well-draining substrate is ideal. During the growing season, we water thoroughly and then allow the substrate to dry out considerably; we consistently avoid waterlogging.
Description and notes: ‘Elephant Trunk’ is a decorative Cotyledon selection with robust, succulent growth and fleshy leaves. Thanks to the moisture stored in its leaves and shoots, the plant tolerates dry periods well. In winter, we grow it on the drier side in adequate light and protect it from frost.
