Name: Ceratostema pepeportillae A.Doucette & H.Medina

Etymology: The genus name Ceratostema derives from the Greek keras (“horn”) and stema (“stamen”). The epithet pepeportillae honors Jose Portilla.

First description: The species was described in 2025 by Alfonso Doucette and Hugo Medina.

Origin / Habitat: Ecuador, known from the El Oro region, among other places, in moist tropical habitats. It grows epiphytically.

Description & Notes: An epiphytic shrub with ascending to trailing shoots and leathery foliage. We grow it in bright to partially shaded conditions, with high humidity, good air circulation, and consistent moisture. We keep the substrate well drained. We maintain it at around 16–24 °C.
