Description

Ceratostema pendens

Name: Ceratostema pendens Luteyn

Etymology: The genus name Ceratostema refers to horn-like structures of the flower. The Latin specific epithet pendens means “hanging.”

First description: In 2005 by James L. Luteyn.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: From humid Andean forests at around 1,400 m. Suitable conditions include moderate temperatures of approximately 14–24 °C, high humidity, bright filtered light, and good air circulation.

Description and notes: This species grows hanging and forms a robust, woody stem base. Its tubular flowers are typical of many South American blueberry relatives. We recommend a humus-rich, acidic, and very well-draining substrate. Keep it evenly slightly moist, but avoid roots that remain wet.
