Name: Ceratostema pedunculatum
Etymology: The genus name Ceratostema is derived from Greek and refers to horn-like structures of the flower. The specific epithet pedunculatum refers to the prominent flower stalk.
Origin/Distribution: Tropical Andes of South America.
Location/Habitat: This Ericaceae is adapted to the humid, airy conditions of mountain forests. We recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, steady air movement, and intermediate temperatures.
Description and Notes: Ceratostema pedunculatum is a rarely cultivated tropical Ericaceae with attractive foliage and striking tubular flowers. We use a loose, acidic, very airy substrate with good moisture retention. The roots should remain evenly and slightly moist, while excess water must be able to drain quickly. Soft, low-mineral water is beneficial. Prolonged heat, compacted substrate, and waterlogging should be avoided.
