Name: Cattleya Elegans (1898)
Synonyms: Laeliocattleya Elegans (1898)
Parents: Cattleya intermedia x Laelia purpurata
Breeder: Maron
RHS Registration: Maron
Notes: The hybrid name Elegans was used multiple times during the early days of registration, which is why it is always stated with the year for correct identification. As neither the breeder nor the registrant is known, the abbreviation hort. (= of horticultural origin) is used here.
In-vitro culture: You will receive a flask with 4 young plants. The plants are generally already large enough for deflasking. After opening, carefully remove the nutrient medium completely from the roots with lukewarm water and pot the young plants in fine, very airy bark with a little sphagnum moss. For the first few weeks, we recommend high humidity, warm to intermediate conditions, and bright but protected light with good air movement. Keep the substrate evenly slightly moist at first; only gradually increase light intensity and drying out after secure establishment.
