Name: Caladium praetermissum Bogner & Hett. ‘Tundayme’
Etymology: The specific epithet praetermissum means “overlooked” or “unnoticed” and refers to the long period during which the cultivated plant material was difficult to identify. ‘Tundayme’ refers to the cultivar offered.
Location/growing conditions: We grow the plant in warm conditions at approximately 20–28 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. During active growth, we keep the loose, humus-rich substrate consistently moist. During its seasonal dormant period, watering is reduced considerably.
Description and notes: This form of caladium has large, decorative leaves with prominent veining. We are cautious about definitively identifying the form cultivated as ‘Tundayme’ as Caladium praetermissum; however, the most important factors for cultivation are warmth, consistent moisture during growth, and a well-aerated root zone.
