Name: Caladium bicolor (Aiton) Vent. ‘Red Scarf’
Etymology: The genus name Caladium originates from a Southeast Asian term for tuberous aroids. The specific epithet bicolor means "two-colored." ‘Red Scarf’ refers to the striking red leaf pattern.
Origin: The species is native to tropical America; ‘Red Scarf’ is a horticultural cultivar.
Location/Cultivation requirements: During active growth, we cultivate the plant in warm conditions at approximately 20–28 °C, high humidity, and bright, indirect light. We keep the loose, humus-rich substrate consistently slightly moist.
Description and notes: ‘Red Scarf’ develops decorative leaves with intense red to pinkish-red areas and contrasting green markings. Caladiums grow from tubers and can go through a seasonal dormant period. When the foliage dies back, we reduce watering significantly and keep the tuber warm and rather dry until new growth begins.
