Name: Bulbophyllum ellassonotum
Etymology: The genus name Bulbophyllum is composed of the Greek words for “bulb” and “leaf” and refers to the pseudobulbs, each of which bears a single leaf.
Location/Habitat: An epiphytic orchid suited to warm, humid conditions. We recommend bright, filtered light, high humidity, and steady air movement.
Description and Notes: Bulbophyllum ellassonotum develops a creeping rhizome with individual pseudobulbs and leathery leaves. We prefer to grow this species in a shallow pot or basket, or mounted, so that the rhizome has enough room to spread. A fine- to medium-grade, very airy orchid mix that retains a little moisture is ideal. We keep the roots evenly moist and avoid letting them dry out completely for extended periods. Warm temperatures of around 20–30 °C, high humidity, and good air movement promote healthy growth.
