Name: Begonia rex ‘Kohala Red’
Etymology: The genus name Begonia honors Michel Bégon. The cultivar name ‘Kohala Red’ refers to the striking reddish hues of the ornamental foliage.
Description and notes: Begonia rex ‘Kohala Red’ is a compact foliage begonia with intensely patterned, asymmetrical leaves. Depending on the light and stage of development, the leaves display vibrant shades of red, pink, silver, and darker green. We recommend a bright to partially shaded location away from direct midday sun. The growing medium should be loose, humus-rich, and well-draining, allowing the surface to dry out slightly between waterings. Avoid waterlogging and persistently wet leaves. Increased humidity with good air circulation, as well as warm temperatures of around 18–26°C, promote compact, healthy growth.
