Name: Begonia Rex Cultorum Group ‘Purple Blush’
Etymology: The genus name Begonia was chosen in honor of Michel Bégon. The cultivar name ‘Purple Blush’ refers to the striking purple to pink hues of the foliage.
Origin/Breeding: A cultivated variety from the Rex-Cultorum Group, not a distinct botanical species.
Location/Cultivation Conditions: We grow ‘Purple Blush’ in bright to partially shaded conditions at around 18–25 °C, with high humidity and good air circulation. The substrate should be loose, rich in humus, and well drained, and should remain evenly and slightly moist. We avoid intense direct sunlight, waterlogging, and temperatures below around 15 °C.
Description and Notes: This compact foliage begonia produces striking, asymmetrical leaves with a mix of purple, pink, silver, and green hues. The coloration and markings can change with light intensity and leaf age. Bright, indirect light encourages vivid coloration without scorching the delicate foliage.
