Name: Begonia bowerae Ziesenh.
Etymology: The genus name Begonia honors Michel Bégon; bowerae honors Constance Bower.
First described: 1950 by Rudolf Christian Ziesenhenne.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to Mexico.
Location/Habitat: We cultivate Begonia bowerae in warm to intermediate conditions at approximately 18–27 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the loose, humus-rich, and well-drained substrate evenly slightly moist.
Description and Notes: This compact, rhizomatous begonia has small, asymmetrical leaves with attractive dark markings along the veins, as well as finely pubescent petioles and leaf margins. We avoid direct intense sun and continuously wet substrate. Good air circulation supports healthy foliage in high humidity.
