Description

Anthurium truncicola nanum

Name: Anthurium truncicola Engl. ‘Nanum’

Synonyms: Anthurium divaricatum Sodiro; Anthurium marginatum Sodiro; Anthurium martinezii Sodiro; Anthurium platylobum Sodiro; Anthurium subdeltoideum Engl.

Etymology: The genus name Anthurium is derived from Greek and refers to the characteristic shape of the inflorescence. The epithet truncicola means “living on trunks” and refers to its epiphytic way of life.

First description: The species was described by Adolf Engler in 1898.

Origin / Habitat: Colombia to Peru, in humid tropical forests. It grows epiphytically.

Description & Notes: Epiphytic Anthurium with decorative foliage; ‘Nanum’ refers to a small-growing horticultural form. We cultivate it in bright to partial shade, warm temperatures, high humidity, and with good air circulation. We keep the substrate consistently slightly moist and avoid waterlogging. We keep it at about 18–28 °C.
