Description

Anthurium superbum

Name: Anthurium superbum, Madison 1978
Synonyms: Two varieties have been described:

Anthurium superbum ssp. brentberlinii, Croat
Anthurium superbum ssp. superbum, Madison
Etymology: superbus = proud, magnificent
Origin: Peru, Ecuador, Colombia
Habitat: terrestrial in semi-shaded areas in Colombia, no further precise information. Another location in Ecuador describes the habitat as: epiphytic, high in the trees along the Rio Napo.
Notes:
Anthurium superbum belongs to the bird's nest anthuriums and has very firm, leathery foliage. Its appeal lies in the irregular veining with very distinct leaf veins that are reminiscent of a braid.
