Description

Anthurium scherzerianum

Name: Anthurium scherzerianum Schott

Etymology: The specific epithet scherzerianum honors the Austrian explorer Karl von Scherzer.

Origin/Distribution: Central America.

Location/Habitat: In moist tropical to montane forests. We cultivate this species under intermediate to warm conditions at approximately 18–26 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light. We keep a loose, humus-rich, and well-drained substrate consistently slightly moist.

Description and Notes: Anthurium scherzerianum is particularly well-known for its strikingly spirally twisted spadix. The leathery green leaves form a compact clump, while the colorful spathes provide a strong contrast. A distinct resting period is not required.
