Description

Anthurium peltigerum (5.5 cm pot)

Name: Anthurium peltigerum Sodiro

Etymology: The specific epithet peltigerum means “bearing a shield” and refers to the distinctive shape of the leaves.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: Predominantly epiphytic in humid premontane forests, at elevations of approximately 425–2100 m. We grow this species under intermediate conditions at around 16–25 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light.

Description and Notes: Anthurium peltigerum has distinctive, shield-like leaves with prominent parallel venation. Young leaves are lighter green; as they mature, they become noticeably darker and develop an attractive velvety appearance. We keep a coarse, airy aroid substrate evenly and lightly moist.
