Name: Anthurium pedatum, (Kunth) Endl. ex Kunth 1841
Synonyms:
Anthurium elegans, Engl. 1883
Anthurium fortunatum, G.S.Bunting 1963
Anthurium pedatum, (Kunth) Endl.nomen nudum
Anthurium pedatum, (Kunth) Schott 1829
Pothos pedatus, Kunth 1816
Etymology: pedatus = looking like a splayed bird's foot
Origin: Colombia
Habitat: Mostly terrestrial in moist forests at elevations of 350-2100m
Notes:
On July 6, 1801, Humboldt and Bonpland reached Bogota, Colombia. There they met José Mutis, probably the most important botanist in South America. The extensive botanical collection and the magnificent library, as well as Mutis's botanical books and illustrators (and drawings), strengthened Humboldt's desire to focus more intensively on plants during this trip. As a direct result of this acquaintance, Humboldt and Bonpland penetrated deep into the Andes, which had hardly been explored until then.
One of the countless plants discovered on this journey was Anthurium pedatum. Unfortunately, the exact location of the find was not recorded and is therefore unknown.
Anthurium pedatum has very long petioles, up to 60cm long, which emerge close together at the base. As a result, the plant has a less typical, but very elegant and majestic appearance for this genus.
