Description

Anthurium oxycarpum

Name: Anthurium oxycarpum Poepp. & Endl.

Synonyms: Anthurium strictum N. E. Br. ex Engl.

Etymology: The genus name Anthurium means "tailflower"; oxycarpum is composed of the Greek words for "sharp" and "fruit".

Origin/Distribution: Distributed in the western Amazon basin and adjacent Andean regions of South America.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic or lithophytic in moist tropical forests at low altitudes. Warm at about 20–28 °C, with high humidity, filtered light, and good air circulation.

Description and Notes: A robust species with elongated foliage and a narrow inflorescence; a vanilla-like scent may occur during flowering. Use a coarse, airy aroid substrate, keep consistently slightly moist, and avoid waterlogging.
