Name: Anthurium 'Midnight Moon'
Etymology: 'Midnight Moon' — an arbitrarily chosen cultivar name; it refers to the deep, dark, velvety leaves inherited from Anthurium papillilaminum and their contrasting, elegant sheen.
First description: Cultivated hybrid. The cross was bred from Anthurium 'Andean Moon' and Anthurium papillilaminum.
Location / Habitat: Cultivated as a terrestrial to semi-epiphytic plant. It grows best in a very airy, humus-rich, well-draining substrate (aroid mix with bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss). It prefers shady to partially shady conditions (no direct sunlight), high humidity above 70%, and warm temperatures year-round (20–28 °C) with constant air circulation.
Description & Notes: Anthurium 'Midnight Moon' is a spectacular modern selection that combines the best traits of its parents. It stands out for its large, heart- to arrow-shaped leaves with an extremely dark, almost black, velvety texture inherited from Anthurium papillilaminum. The fine, light-colored venation appears three-dimensional depending on the light. The plant has a robust, upright growth habit. A stable microclimate and a balanced, low nutrient supply are essential for optimal coloration of the dark leaves. Waterlogging in the substrate must be strictly avoided.
