Description

Anthurium metallicum

Name: Anthurium metallicum Linden ex Schott

Etymology: The specific epithet metallicum means "metallic" and refers to the distinctive surface appearance of the leaves.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia.

Location/Habitat: Epiphytic to hemiepiphytic in humid Andean forests. We cultivate this species under intermediate conditions at about 15–24 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light. We keep the coarse, very airy substrate consistently slightly moist.

Description and Notes: Anthurium metallicum develops long, dark green leaves with striking venation and a metallic, velvety effect. The robust adventitious roots benefit from a well-aerated root zone. We avoid intense heat and permanently wet, compacted substrate.
