Name: Anthurium macdanielii Croat
Etymology: The specific epithet macdanielii honors Charlie MacDaniel, a naturalist and companion of the author.
First description: 2005 by Thomas B. Croat.
Origin/Distribution: Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
Habitat: Epiphytic to hemiepiphytic on the eastern Andean slopes in humid tropical and premontane forests, at approximately 200–2,000 m elevation. We recommend approximately 18–28 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, filtered light.
Description and notes: This vigorous species develops large, leathery leaves with multiple stabilizing basal veins; shape and coloration change significantly with age. Mature leaf blades can reach about a meter in length, while the spadix can be dark red to deep purple. A climbing support and coarse, airy aroid substrate support growth. Keep evenly slightly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
