Name: Anthurium lutheri, 1998 Croat, nomen nudum
Etymology:
lutheri = Harry E. Luther (1952 – October 17, 2012) was an American botanist who conducted extensive botanical expeditions in the USA (Florida), Mexico, Panama, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil. Luther was a staff member at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, for 32 years. In 2010, he accepted a position as Assistant Director of Horticulture at Singapore's famous Gardens by the Bay.
Origin: Colombia, Ecuador
Location:
The species was first found by Kress & Luther on June 26, 1991. Tom Croat later specified altitudes of 1000–1500m for the locations; the species primarily grows terrestrially in freshly cleared forests, with epiphytic occurrence being observed quite rarely.
Notes:
With its long, pendulous, narrow leaves that taper to thin, round, slender tips, Anthurium lutheri is a very striking and attractive species.
