Name: Anthurium ivanportillae Croat
Etymology: The genus name Anthurium derives from the Greek words for “flower” and “tail,” referring to the spadix-shaped inflorescence. The specific epithet ivanportillae honors Iván Portilla.
Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.
Location/Habitat: The species is native to mid-elevation areas on the eastern side of the Ecuadorian Andes. We recommend intermediate to warm conditions of around 18–27 °C, high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light.
Description and Notes: Anthurium ivanportillae is a rarely cultivated collector’s species with distinctive foliage. A coarse, airy yet slightly moisture-retentive aroid mix supports healthy roots. Keep it consistently slightly moist, water with the softest water possible, and avoid waterlogging. Under stable conditions and with a support to climb, the plant can develop increasingly robust leaves.
