Description

Anthurium gymnopus 'Purple'

Name: Anthurium gymnopus ‘Purple’

Etymology: gymnopus derives from Greek and means “barefoot” in a figurative sense. ‘Purple’ refers to the distinctive coloration of this cultivar.

Origin/Distribution: Anthurium gymnopus is native to Cuba.

Location/Growing Conditions: We grow ‘Purple’ in warm conditions at around 20–29°C, with bright, indirect to filtered light and good air circulation. We keep the coarse, highly aerated aroid substrate evenly slightly moist and ensure the root zone is well ventilated.

Description and Notes: The species has a climbing to epiphytic growth habit and firm, elongated leaves. The ‘Purple’ selection is cultivated for its distinctive darker to purple coloration. A climbing support or epiphytic culture supports its natural growth form.
