Description

Anthurium friedrichsthalii

Name: Anthurium friedrichsthalii Schott

Etymology: The specific epithet friedrichsthalii honors the Austrian traveler and naturalist Emanuel von Friedrichsthal.

Origin/Distribution: Central America to northwestern South America.

Location/Habitat: Primarily epiphytic in humid tropical forests, often near streams. We grow this species in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright, indirect light.

Description and Notes: Anthurium friedrichsthalii develops narrow, elongated leaves and an elegant growth habit that becomes pendulous with age. Its slender inflorescences and later its decorative berries are characteristic features. A coarse, very airy aroid mix is particularly well suited to its epiphytic growth habit.
