Name: Anthurium fornicifolium Croat
Etymology: The genus name Anthurium is derived from the Greek words for “flower” and “tail,” referring to the spadix inflorescence. The specific epithet fornicifolium refers to the arched shape of the leaves.
Origin/Distribution: Ecuador.
Location/Habitat: An epiphytic species from moist pre-montane forests on the western slopes of the Cordillera de Cutucú. In cultivation, it prefers intermediate to warm temperatures of around 18–27 °C, high humidity, air movement, and bright, filtered light.
Description and Notes: Anthurium fornicifolium is a distinctive collector’s species with arched leaf surfaces. We recommend a coarse, airy aroid potting mix that retains moisture without compacting around the roots. Water regularly with soft water, keep evenly lightly moist, and avoid waterlogging. Good air circulation is particularly important in conditions of high humidity.
