Description

Anthurium esmeraldense

Name: Anthurium esmeraldense Sodiro

Etymology: The specific epithet esmeraldense refers to Esmeraldas in northwestern Ecuador.

Origin/Distribution: Ecuador and Colombia.

Habitat: Epiphytic or terrestrial in moist tropical forests. We grow this species in warm conditions at around 20–28 °C, with high humidity, good air circulation, and bright to partially shaded indirect light.

Description and Notes: Anthurium esmeraldense develops elongated leaves that become leathery with age and have an attractive surface texture. The inflorescence has a long spadix. A coarse, humus-rich, airy aroid mix kept evenly lightly moist encourages vigorous growth.
