Description

Anthurium cupulispathum

Name: Anthurium cupulispathum Croat & J.Rodr.

Etymology: The genus name Anthurium is derived from the Greek words for “flower” and “tail.” The specific epithet cupulispathum refers to the hood- or cup-shaped spathe.

First described: 1996 by Thomas B. Croat and J. Rodríguez.

Origin/Distribution: Colombia and Ecuador.

Location/Habitat: Moist forests and partially shaded forest edges along the Pacific Andes, from low to high elevations. In cultivation, we recommend approximately 17–27 °C, high humidity, and bright, filtered light.

Description and Notes: A large-growing species with robust leaves and striking inflorescences, whose spathe partially encloses the spadix like a hood. A spacious pot, a coarse, airy potting mix, and consistent light moisture are recommended. Avoid direct midday sun and waterlogging.
