Name: Anthurium crystallinum Linden & André ‘Silver’
Etymology: crystallinum means “crystalline” and refers to the strikingly light venation; ‘Silver’ denotes a selection with particularly pronounced silvery markings.
First described: 1873 by Jean Jules Linden and Édouard-François André.
Origin/Distribution: The species is native to northwestern South America and adjacent parts of Central America.
Location/Habitat: We cultivate the young plants in warm to intermediate conditions at approximately 19–27 °C, with high humidity and bright, indirect light. We keep the coarse, airy aroid substrate evenly slightly moist.
Description and Notes: The velvety, heart-shaped leaves have distinctive light venation, which is particularly pronounced in ‘Silver’. Young plants develop the characteristic silvery markings more clearly as the leaves grow larger. We avoid direct, intense sunlight.
